Seismic retrofit solutions for unreinforced masonry walls This research is aimed to investigate the development of validated seismic retrofit solutions for unreinforced masonry (URM) walls. Thesis comprises of three parts namely experimental validation through laboratory testing, numerical modelling and the case studies. The first part of this study involves the experimental testing on viable seismic retrofit solutions for URM walls: 1) the insertion of high strength stainless steel twisted steel reinforcement in surface grooves with a high bond strength inject able grout (SI); 2) Low level un-bonded post-tensioning (UBPT) using the high strength threaded steel rod and sheathed greased twisted strands; 3) The surface application of textile reinforced mortar. Both the in‐plane and the out‐of‐plane responses of retrofitted URM walls were investigated using capacity-demand diagrams. Second part of thesis involves the numerical modelling and validation of this numerical modelling with full scale wall tests. The data generated from experimental results and numerical models was used to develop the conceptual models for low-cost easy to implement application techniques. Parallels were also drawn between the viable retrofit solutions.
